Language Fundamentals - Beginner Series

Our Language Fundamentals - Beginner Series introduces students to the building blocks of language in four levels (Beginner I, II, III & IV). Students will work on developing vocabulary, grammar and conversation skills - as well as be exposed to culture - through a variety of interactive activities, including role-play, discussions, music, video and readings.

These classes are taught weekly in 1-hour, 50-minute sessions.

Languages for Summer 2010 include Spanish, Italian, French, Mandarin & Arabic.

Language Fundamentals - Intermediate Series

Our Language Fundamentals - Intermediate Series is for students looking to expand on their current foundation in the language from the point of view of vocabulary, grammar and conversation. Students will work on developing vocabulary, grammar and conversation skills - as well as be exposed to culture - through a variety of interactive activities, including role-play, discussions, music, video and readings.

These classes are taught weekly in 1-hour, 50-minute sessions.

Language Fundamentals - Intensive

For those that want to study at a more aggressive pace, our Language Fundamentals - Intensive program is taught twice weekly in 90-minute sessions and covers double the content (in less total time than if you take two consecutive sessions).

High Intermediate/Advanced Spanish through Film

This class is designed for high intermediate/advanced students and heritage speakers. Over nine weeks, you will watch and discuss 3-4 films from the Spanish-speaking world. In doing so, you will build vocabulary, refine your grammar and develop your listening and speaking skills.

Advanced Elective

Our Advanced Spanish Elective series provides an opportunity for high intermediate, advanced and heritage speakers to continue to develop their language skills through the study of film and literature.

Conversation Courses

Multilingual Chicago's Conversation Courses are just that: a structured opportunity to practice and enhance your exisiting language skills in a fun and relaxed classroom setting. Classes are led by an experienced instructor who will present a different topic of conversation each week for the students to discuss - from sports, art and politics to fashion, archeology, astronomy, music and more. Expect to read texts, watch video clips, listen to music and, most importantly, to talk. During the classes, the instructor will also highlight new vocabulary or review challenging grammar points as they come up.

Heritage Speakers

Multilingual Chicago's Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers is an innovative program specifically designed to address the language needs of individuals who grew up in a Spanish-speaking household or community, but still need to refine their Spanish-speaking, grammar and writing abilities.

For those who grew up hearing and speaking Spanish around their homes, a standard Spanish Fundamentals class probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense given their familiarity with the language already. That's why our Spanish for Native/Heritage Speakers Program is great for those who understand Spanish yet may literally be at a loss for words when it comes to specific verb tenses, Spanish colloquialisms, Spanish in professional settings or simply writing a letter.

Whether you need to improve your Spanish for work related reasons, or if you just want to be able to better communicate with la abuelita, our Native/Heritage speakers courses can offer you an excellent path to improve your Spanish in a variety of settings.

Bilingual Boot Camp

Give us a day, and we'll get you talking! Maybe you're about to take an international trip and can't squeeze in a full language course, or maybe you just can't commit to a weekly class? Then say no more - our Bilingual Boot Camp is the perfect option for you! These 7-hour classes will cover the basics and give you the confidence you need to speak - and don't worry, there will be breaks!

Private Tutoring

Whether you have specialized vocabulary needs, are on a tight timeframe or just prefer a one-on-one learning environment, try our private tutoring! All languages are available (that's right, we said all languages!).

If you have a specific language that you need to learn for work or travel, we can locate a tutor for you in the language of your choice. You will be able to determine the schedule, what, and how often you meet up for class. Additionally, you will be able to work one-on-one with your teacher to reach the goals of your language learning objectives. Our Private Tutoring will take place in Multilingual Chicago's language cafe or offsite at your location of choice. Semi-Private options are also available. Our private tutoring is available for both adults and kids of all ages.

*Offsite tutoring is priced differently

Spanish for Restaurants

Have you ever wished you could better facilitate communication between the front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house at your restaurant? That you could discuss scheduling, sick day and time-off policies with non English-speaking employees? That you could better control the quality and consistency of plates coming out of the kitchen? That you could improve customer service? That you could network and share tips with other Chicago restaurant managers?

This course will be dedicated to helping managers to:

  • Learn the Spanish necessary to discuss scheduling, restaurant policies and quality control
  • Learn how to provide job feedback and training to improve safety and efficiency
  • Learn to compliment employees, show appreciation and hold a basic conversation
  • Develop a stronger understanding of cultural differences that often underlie tension and conflict in the workplace
  • Understand changing demographics in the U.S. population and how it affects the restaurant industry

Class meets one a week for 2 hours for 5 weeks.
